So taking my lead from the awesome ITA97 and his also awesome Pajero I’ve been giving my 1990 Mazda B2600i 4x4 some love this past week. It got a serious tune up this past weekend including: cleaning the MAF and throttle body, replacing plugs, wires, cap, replacing PCV valve, replacing valve cover gasket, ignition coil and fuel filter.

It ran much better after this, but still not great. Next is the downpipe (it’s more patch than pipe) and corresponding O2 sensor.

Today at lunch as it’s sunny and nice today I walked out the garage to it to gather parts for my next task and saw the new wiper blades in my parts stack and said I’ll put them on now. Then took a look at my wiper stalks - Damn they’re ugly!

Now the rest of the truck is no cream puff at all with a fair bit of rust but this is especially unsightly. Out come the needed tools - a cordless drill, wire brush and black spray paint.

20 minutes later and tada!

Kinja'd!!!

Now there was a ton of pitting on these guys so they still look bad up close and yeah there’s a tad bit of overspray but they look much better!

Next I’ll have to take care of the bumper in the same fashion. I’d love to do something with the paint, but have not the skills, tools or inclination to do so.

Kinja'd!!!

Stay safe and sane everyone!

That was a pretty big step up aesthetically. Nice project to take on about now too. What’s the mileage and engine/trans combo?

I think the bumper could be improved with that same method without taking it off the truck as long as you mask well and stuff some newspaper or whatever a little better.

Its a 1990 with the 2.6 and a 5 speed with 4x4. It’s a pretty sweet little truck. I’ve actually had it almost a year and just drove it around on occasional errands just running meh.  Decided to put a lot of my spare energy into it as I’m WFH until May 1 as of right now.

That’s a great combination plus that blue color. You can get a lot done with truck like that. Running the wire brush on that front bumper would probably solve a lot of its aesthetic issues. You seem to have a good plan for the mechanical bits to fill your time. Good luck with it.

It is definitely a nice old truck. Especially for here the rust is very manageable, most of them rusted into the scrap yard years ago.

Thanks for the luck - I have it fairly well in hand but have definitely had projects like this get away from me in scope before.
